To determine the link between drinking alcohol and cancer, Nelson and his team collected data from various sources, including national surveys of alcohol use.

Previous studies have shown that the hobby of drinking alcohol are risk factors for cancer of the mouth, throat, esophagus, liver, colon, rectum, and breast cancer in women.

According to experts from the American Cancer Society, not entirely clear how alcohol increases the risk of cancer.

Alcohol is believed to act as a chemical irritant to sensitive cells and triggers DNA damage. Besides alcohol also acts as a solvent for other carcinogens, such as those found in cigarettes, so the carcinogens that can enter cells more easily.

Alcohol is also thought to affect important hormones, such as estrogen thus increasing the risk of breast cancer.

"If you do not drink alcohol, do not start. However if you are a drinker, start limit,"
he said.

Although alcohol is shown to be associated with cancer, but tobacco is still a strong factor in cancer mortality. Every year, 100,000 deaths due to cancer is triggered by smoking habits.
